Eicon Releases Newest Version of Aviva Web-to-Host Server E-Commerce Platform
Windows 2000 Server Support, Doubled Scalability and Windows
CE Features Make a Strong Case for Eicon’s e-Commerce Host Publishing
Tool and Connectivity Engine
MONTREAL, February 11, 2000 — Eicon Technology Corporation (TSE:
EIC), a global leader in remote access solutions, today released
Aviva Web-to-Host Server 8.20, the latest version of its highly
acclaimed e-commerce host publishing tool and connectivity engine.
Aviva Web-to-Host Server Web-enables a corporation’s existing SNA
host applications so that information can be extended to a growing
user base via the Internet or intranet. By providing traditional
host information and displaying it in popular and easy-to-use Web
pages, corporations are better poised for entering into the extremely
dynamic and lucrative world of e-commerce.
"Aviva Web-to-Host Server is an incredibly flexible solution that
is meeting, with great success, a myriad of e-commerce requirements,"
stated Ken Gingrich, Eicon Technology’s Executive Vice President
Sales and Marketing . "Current customers deploying this solution
include the National Bank of Canada for on-line bank transactions,
a major league baseball team for Web-based ticket sales, and Syntellect
for host connectivity in call center applications,"
Gingrich added. Included in this new version of Aviva Web-to-Host
Server 8.20 is support for the much anticipated Windows® 2000 Server
operating system, and significant increases in scalability vis-à-vis
the maximum number of concurrent host sessions supported. As such,
host sessions can be shared amongst thousands of Internet users
for transaction-based applications in a highly secure manner, as
Aviva Web-to-Host Server supports all standard Web security methods
like Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption or SecurID cards.
Furthermore, Aviva Web-to-Host Server 8.20 fully supports Palm
or hand-held devices running Microsoft’s Windows CE operating system
with the Pocket Internet Explorer browser. Configurations, features
and screen displays can be changed and customized for the type of
browser used, so that road warriors using Palm-size CE devices or
customers on the Internet can securely access the information they
need in a browser display tailored to their requirements.
Tightly integrated with Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS)
and Active Server Pages (ASP) technology, Aviva Web-to-Host Server’s
powerful ActiveX® -based tools enable Web designers to create e-commerce
applications using standard JavaScript and VBScript development
tools. Aviva Web-to-Host Server also simplifies the process by providing
out-of-the-box SNA-to-HTML conversion for instant browser access,
and sample Web pages for mainframe and midrange applications.
"With the exponential growth in e-commerce and users accessing
host data over the Internet, Aviva Web-to-Host Server’s ability
to support popular Windows CE devices and improved scalability add
real value for our customers," commented Maks Wulkan, Executive
Vice President at Eicon Technology. "Aviva Web-to-Host Server not
only offers corporations a flexible and intuitive e-commerce platform
upon which to grow their businesses but will also integrate into
the soon-to-be released Windows 2000 platform to provide a very
secure and reliable host connectivity engine."
Eicon also offers other web-to-host solutions, such as Aviva for
Java, a true "thin-client" emulator providing full-function and
secure TN3270(E) host access across intranets and the Internet,
featuring a rich set of APIs and JavaBeans for customization according
to an enterprise’s e-business requirements.
The suggested retail price for Aviva Web-to-Host Server is $150
US per concurrent session. For more information on Eicon’s Aviva
