Eicon Technology's Aviva Brings Host-Based Information To The
Palm Of Your Hand
Aviva Family Supports Wireless-to-Host Communications for the
Fulfillment of Host Information-on-Demand
MONTREAL, March 28, 2000 — Eicon Technology (TSE: EIC), a global
leader in remote access solutions, today announced full support
for WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) in its Aviva® family of
Web-to-host access products, paving the way toward ubiquitous wireless
host access.
Increasingly, corporations are looking to provide their growing
mobile user groups with continuous access to dispersed, heterogeneous
host-based information. To meet this demand, Aviva Web-to-Host Server™
and Aviva for Java™ are the first offerings in the Aviva family
to enable e-business transactions via WAP. Being able to extend
host-based information to WAP-enabled mobile phones for the immediate
fulfillment of information-on-demand is the natural progression
for the Aviva Web-to-host access solutions.
"Eicon has always supported its customers through the early adoption
and support of new technologies, enabling them to enjoy a first-mover
advantage in the market. Wireless host access is no exception."
said Ken Gingrich, Eicon Technology’s Senior Vice President for
Worldwide Sales and Marketing Operations. "As our customers move
from extending host access from the desktop to the Web, and now
out to the wireless community, we remain committed to providing
them with the ability to achieve all of their host access requirements.
" By deploying Aviva in a WAP environment, sales personnel, customer
service agents, employees and consumers can access the host-based
information they require, immediately and directly from their mobile
phones or other handheld devices. Internal business applications
for sales, service and tracking, as well as external applications
offered by content and service providers, such as weather updates
or ticket purchasing, are now easily accessible directly over a
WAP connection.
Aviva extends information outward without modifying existing applications,
further leveraging current investments in host-based business logic
and data. As such, corporations are able to provide host-based information
on-demand, positioning them for larger financial returns, higher
internal and external customer satisfaction, decreased turn-around
times and increased exposure to an ever-growing mobile customer
base.
"Helping corporations find new ways to exploit the power of their
host-based information and automate their business logic with unparalleled
flexibility, scalability and stability is what the Aviva family
is all about," commented Jean-François Levesque, Director of the
Host Access Business Unit at Eicon Technology. "By supporting wireless-to-host,
we are one step closer to achieving our ultimate goal of providing
the tools to enable host information on-demand, across any platform."
Wireless is the natural extension of e-business and e-commerce.
By supporting wireless technology, Aviva Web-to-host products make
host-based business logic more accessible for organizations’ internal
and external customers.
