Session properties
Transfer Properties dialog box/tab
(3270 display sessions only)
Note: You only have access to these configuration options if your Administrator has
granted you permission.

In a workspace
The Transfer Properties dialog box enables you to define the default properties used for file transfers. Users can override these settings (if you give them permission) when running a session.
The four tabs let you customize the settings for sending/receiving text files and sending/receiving binary files. The options available are different for CICS, TSO, and VM.
The following shows the options for TSO.

In a session
The Transfer Properties tab enables you to adjust the default file transfer settings when sending or receiving a file. The default settings are defined when the session is created in the Administrator or User Workspace.

Configuration options
Depending on the host environment, not all of the following options are available.
Convert CR-LF to record separator
Convert record separator to CR-LF
This option enables IND$FILE to convert end-of-line markers (i.e. carriage returns and linefeed characters, abbreviated CR-LF) when you are sending or receiving a text file. When you send a file to the host, IND$FILE will break the text file into host record based on the CR-LF markers.
You must convert CR-LF markers to make transferred text files readable by the host system. Generally, you should not enable this option when transferring binary files.
Host space allocation
(TSO environment only)
Items in this group box let you specify the units of storage that the host will allocate to a transferred file. The space can be measured in blocks, tracks, or cylinders. The default unit of measurement on the host is block. Four options are available:
Block
Sets the host space allocation unit to blocks. You can specify the number of bytes for the Average Block Size. Enter a value between 1 and 32760 bytes. When you select Block, you must also specify the Initial quantity reserved for a file. If the transferred file exceeds this specified number of blocks, then more blocks will be added in increments specified in the Increment when initial exceeded box. You must enter a value for the initial quantity that is 1 or greater.
Track
Sets the host space allocation unit to tracks. When you select Track, you must specify the number of hard disk tracks that are initially reserved for a new file being transferred. If the transferred file exceeds this specified number of tracks, then more tracks will be added in increments specified in the Increment when initial exceeded box. You must enter a value for the Initial quantity reserved for a file that is 1 or greater.
Cylinder
Sets the host space allocation unit to cylinders. When you select Cylinder, you must also specify the Initial quantity reserved for a file. If the transferred file exceeds the specified number of cylinders, then more cylinders will be added in increments specified in the Increment when initial exceeded box. You must enter a value for the initial quantity that is 1 or greater.
Default
Sets the host space allocation unit to default, which lets the host system decide how space will be allocated for the file. Select Default as the host space allocation unit if you are unsure of what unit to use.
Record format
Items in this group box let you set the records of a transferred file to have a fixed or variable length on the host.
Fixed
Sets the records of a transferred file to have a fixed length on the host.
Variable
Sets the records of a transferred file to have a variable length on the host. The default length is Variable.
Undefined
(TSO only)
Sets the records of a transferred file to have an undefined length on the host.
Default
Lets the host environment select the record format, or otherwise uses the record format of the target file (if the file already exists).
Logical record length
(TSO and VM environments only)
Items in this group box set the number of bytes in each record for a file that is transferred to the host.
The host system's default value for this parameter changes depending on the setting of the Record format. If the Record format is set to Variable, then the default value for this parameter is 80 bytes for the VM host environment, or 255 bytes for the TSO environment. If the record format is set to Fixed, then the default value is 80 bytes.
Use default host record length
Lets the host system define the Logical Record Length, or otherwise uses the Logical Record Length of the target file (if the file already exists).
Set size
Sets the maximum logical record length to the value you enter here. The transferred file automatically takes the record length of the file that it replaces or appends to, and overrides the value you specify here. Specify a value between 1 and 32760 bytes.
Block size
(TSO environment only)
Options in this group box enable you to set the block size that a transferred file uses on the host.
The host system's default value for this parameter changes depending on the setting of the Record Format. If the Record Format is set to Variable, then the block size is 6233 bytes. If the record format is set to Fixed, then the block size is the largest multiple of the record length that is less than 6233 bytes.
Use default host block size
Lets the host system define the block size, or otherwise uses the block size of the target file (if the file already exists).
Set size
Sets the maximum block size to the value you enter here. The transferred file automatically takes the block size of the file that it replaces or appends to, and overrides the value you specify here. Enter a value between 1 and 65536 bytes.
Additional IND$FILE parameters
Sets any additional parameters that are supported by your host IND$FILE program. Specific parameters depend on your host environment.
Get default button
(session only)
Resets all parameters to their default settings.
Save as default button
(session only)
Overwrites the default settings for this session with the current definitions.
