Session properties
Terminal tab

The Terminal tab presents different options depending on the type of session.

Note: You only have access to these configuration options if your Administrator has granted you permission.

Configuration options

Code page
Sets the code page that the session uses. For 3270 and 5250 sessions, the code page enables AFJ to determine which character set to display on your computer when an EBCDIC character is received from the host, and which EBCDIC character to send to the host when a character is received from your computer.

VT220 code pages provide the same type of mapping for ASCII characters.

You can ask your administrator for the correct code page to use.

Terminal type
(display sessions only)
Sets the terminal type that this session emulates. AFJ supports the following display terminal types:

3270 5250 VT220

IBM-3278

IBM-3279

IBM-3179

VT220 - 8 bits

VT220 - 7 bits

VT100

VT52

By default, the terminal type for 3270 display sessions is IBM-3279, and the terminal type for VT220 display sessions is VT220 - 7 bits.

Screen model
(display sessions only)
Sets the alternate screen model for this session. The screen model determines the dimensions of the emulation screen. The session automatically switches to the alternate screen model when it is required by the host application that you are using. AFJ supports the following screen models:

Options supported by this session
Extended attributes
(3270 display only)
Enables support for extended attributes. Choosing extended attributes tells the host that the session allows additional properties to be defined for a field, such as color and highlighting.

Typeahead
(3270 and 5250 display only)
Enables support for typeahead. Typeahead places keystrokes in a buffer (a temporary storage area) before they are displayed on the screen. The typeahead buffer stores the most recently typed characters, and lets you enter keystrokes when the host is not ready (busy sending or receiving data), but not when input is inhibited (an error occurred).

Numeric lock
(3270 display only)
Turns on numeric lock. Numeric lock causes AFJ to verify the contents of numeric-only fields before sending them to the host. If you enter a non-numeric character in a numeric only field, the Numeric Entry Only message appears in the OIA area, and you are prompted to re-enter numeric characters.

If you do not select Numeric Lock, you will not be notified if you enter non-numeric characters in a numeric only field.

Audible alarms
(display sessions only)
Enables error beeps generated by AFJ to alert you to errors such as invalid cursor positions, or incorrect parameter settings.

Autowrap
(VT220 only)
Causes lines of text that are longer than the screen's width (80 or 132 columns) to automatically wrap to the next line.

Local echo
(VT220 only)
Sends keystrokes to the screen and to the host.

Lock user defined keys
(VT220 only)
Prevents a host application from clearing or redefining user-defined function keys.

Lock user features
(VT220 only)
Prevents a host application from changing the following terminal settings: tab stops, keyboard lock, screen background, scrolling speed and auto repeat.

Message queue
(5250 printer only)
Specify the name of the message queue where operational messages for your printer will be sent.

Message queue library
(5250 printer only)
Specify the name of the message queue library where operational messages for your printer will be sent.

Form feed
(5250 printer only)
Specify the type of paper used by your printer.

Select font ID
(5250 printer only)
Specify the font identifier to use for the printer. Each font identifier is associated with an implied characters-per-inch value. Your system administrator can tell you which identifiers are supported by your printer.

Enable host print transform
(5250 printer only)
Lets you support particular modes of PC printer or assign a workstation customizing object. Select this check box, and then click Configure to set the properties for host print transform. This opens the Host Print Transform dialog box.

Answerback
(VT220 only)
Message
Specify the text that will be used to reply to a request from the host.

Auto answerback
Select this option to automatically send the message to the host once the connection is established.

Automatic sign-on
(5250 display only)
Enables AFJ to automatically send login information to the AS/400 when the session connects. If the host does not accept the user name, password, or one or more of the sign-on parameters, automatic sign-on will fail and the sign-on screen will be displayed. (These options can be left blank.)

User
Specify your username.

Password
Specify your user password.

Program/procedure
Specify the name of the program that starts automatically when this session connects.

Menu
Specify the name of the host menu that you want this session to display when it connects. This can be an AS/400 menu or an application-specific menu.

Current library
Specify the name of the library that you want this session to display when it connects.
